    Arizona State Museum at the University of Arizona is in search of an Assistant Manager, Permits Office (Cultural Institutions Compliance Professional III). The Assistant Manager, Permits Office position is within the Research Division of the Arizona State Museum (ASM) and is supervised by the Arizona Antiquities Act (AAA) Administrator. The incumbent assists in fulfilling ASM’s state mandated responsibilities. In coordination with the AAA Administrator, the incumbent is primarily responsible for the daily operations of the ASM Permits Office, including handling public inquiries, records management, and processing of AAA Permit applications and materials received pursuant to state law.

    The ideal candidate for this position is expected to be a self-starter and demonstrate the ability to balance working independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will exercise judgement in setting daily priorities and a high degree of professionalism, work ethic, and interpersonal engagement with colleagues while working to support ASM’s state mandates.     Duties & responsibilities:

    • Assists the AAA Administrator in processing AAA Permit applications, including reviewing all AAA Blanket and Project-Specific Permit applications for completeness, preparing permits, obtaining necessary signatures, and returning materials to applicants.
    • Reviews qualifications of prospective Project Directors and Principal Investigators for listing on AAA Permits.
    • Receives draft reports and project deliverables for work conducted under AAA Permits and ensures that required deliverables are submitted.
    • Assists the AAA Administrator with report review and provides comments and revision requests.
    • Assists the AAA Administrator in developing policy and guidelines relevant to the implementation of the AAA.
    • Maintains paper and electronic records for the Permits Office including quotes, invoices, Notices of Intent, and reports, and works with the University of Arizona Research, Innovation and Impact Business Center.
    • Assists the AAA Administrator in invoicing tasks.
    • Orders supplies for the ASM Mandated Programs offices according to established department procedures.
    • Conducts regular inventory of Permits working files.
    • Supervises student employees and interns.
    • Additional duties may be assigned.

    Knowledge, skills & abilities:

    • Knowledge of archaeology and archaeological experience, preferably within the Southwest and with cultural resources management in the United States.
    • Ability to qualify under current Arizona Antiquities Act (AAA) standards as a Principal Investigator for the purposes of a AAA Permit.
    • Working knowledge of the Arizona Antiquities Act (A.R.S. §§ 41-841 through 41-846).
    • Ability to read USGS 7.5’ maps and understanding the UTM & PLSS location systems.
    • Demonstrable skills working with Microsoft Access and ESRI ArcGIS.
    • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in anthropology (specializing in archaeology) or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
    • Minimum of 5 years archaeological experience working with a cultural resources management agency or firm in the United States is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in anthropology (specializing in archaeology).
    • Five years of archaeological experience working with a cultural resources management agency or firm in the southwestern United States.
    • Research and field experience in the archaeology of the southwestern United States.
    • Supervisory experience in cultural resource management archaeology in the southwestern United States.
    • Formal, professional training in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
    • Prior use of the AZSITE Geographic Information System.
    • Prior use of the Arizona State Museum's Archaeological Records Office materials, or similar.
    • Research and field experience in archaeology in the United States.
    • Supervisory experience in cultural resource management archaeology in the United States.
    • Experience in reading USGS 7.5’ maps and understanding the UTM & PLSS location systems.
    • Experience working with Microsoft Access and ESRI ArcGIS.

    ECORP Consulting, Inc. has an immediate need for field archaeologists for an ongoing project in Imperial County, California. Responsibilities include pedestrian survey, site mapping and recording, and other duties as assigned. Work is expected to be approximately four weeks.

    Minimum requirements include a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology or other closely related field, successful completion of an archaeological field school or field methods course at an accredited university in the United States, and at least 1 year of full-time professional experience. 

    Wages are based on level of education, relevant experience, and quality of references.    Bachelor’s Degree wage range is $24 to $27/hour. Master’s Degree in Anthropology and Registered Professional Archaeologists wage range starts at $30/hour. All positions include paid mileage between ECORP’s closest office and the project location, hotel, and per diem. These are temporary non-benefited positions.

    This position is located in Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in the Resources Stewardship and Facilities Management Division.

    Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis.     Duties

    Assists in the development of a variety of documents (e.g., cultural resource management plans, preservation guides, historic structures reports, etc.) by gathering data from files and reports, conducting research, evaluating available information, and preparing draft documents.

    Performs basic research by conducting interviews and publication and record searches, and synthesizing information collected for scientific, historical, and interpretive values.Provides general technical archeological assistance in a variety of areas related to or impacted by the archeological function, including Section 106 compliance, clearance, and planning; archeological assessments, evaluations, and field inspections.

    • Fulfills document requests that may include archaeological reports, ASM site cards, and project registration forms.

    Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park, owned and operated by the City of Phoenix, is located in Phoenix, Arizona, and includes two outdoor trails as well as indoor exhibits.  

    The Museum Aide supports the daily operation of Pueblo Grande Museum. This classification exists to perform technical museological work. The current vacancies include one position that has primary responsibility for special event coordination and support of the Museum's website and social media platforms and one position that is responsible for creating and presenting educational programs. Other duties include visitor services activities. Detailed instructions are provided with each new assignment; however, incumbents are expected to exercise independent judgment in the completion of assigned tasks. A high standard of exemplary guest services is expected. Supervision is received from the Museum Assistant for Visitor Services.

    Currently, two part-time vacancies exist in the Parks and Recreation Department.     Tierra Right of Way Services, Ltd. (Tierra), is seeking temporary field technicians for survey and excavation projects.  Crew members perform duties associated with archaeological survey and the excavation of archaeological sites.  May also be responsible for monitoring at construction sites.

    A crew member works on projects which may last a short period of time or a longer period of time, from just a couple of days to several months.  Working hours may vary from day to day and week to week and overtime may or may not be available.  

    Essential Functions and General Responsibilities:

    • Takes detailed field notes, draws sketch maps, excavates archaeological features, bags artifacts and records provenience of the finds during surveys, monitoring and excavations
    • Navigates and records data with a Garmin, Trimble and computer tablet 
    • Uses a Brunton compass and USGS topographic maps
    • Maintains tools and equipment
    • Takes photographs with a camera or cell phone
    • Walks survey transects on survey crew
    • Excavates various types of archaeological features
    • Performs other related responsibilities as needed

    • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact and collaborate with other project staff 
    • Ability to maintain client confidentiality
    • Ability to work as a team player
    • Ability to work independently, if necessary
    • Attention to organization, detail and accuracy
    • Ability to maintain regular attendance and be punctual
    • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work
    • Ability to understand and follow direction from the Crew Chief and Field Director

    The Crew Member must be able to understand direction and adhere to established procedures, understand, remember and apply instructions and information, understand, remember and communicate routine information, be able to complete routine forms using existing form letters and conduct routine communication.

    The Crew Member must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis, carry a day pack weighing 20 pounds, climb in and out of trenches or excavation units using ramps and ladders on a frequent basis and move self in different positions to accomplish tasks.

    Travel

    This position requires frequent overnight travel and extended stays. Some projects require camping in remote environments.

    Work Environment:

    This position requires work in remote areas and frequent exposure to outdoor elements, wildlife, rough terrain, and extreme temperatures.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or related field
    • Valid driver’s license

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Field experience
