  • Title of your talk.
  • Two keywords that describe your talk.

AAC will host additional events for students and recent graduates on Saturday, October 11. The Saturday events are developed to           provide students with mentoring, training, and skills that would be useful resume builders for cultural resource management jobs.         Spaces for Saturday's events are limited. Contact aacpresident@azarchaeology.org for details and availability.

Field trips and workshops geared towards students of archaeology

Capacity of each workshop/field trip: 15 spots, with 8 reserved for students; first-come, first-served.

Since space is limited, separate registration is required.

To register, email AAC@azarchaeology.org, and indicate which workshop(s)/field trip you are interested in, and whether you are a student.

1) 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.: "Geoarchaeology of the Santa Cruz River" field trip led by Gary Huckleberry

View a description of this field trip here.

2) 9 am. - 11 a.m.: "Pottery of the Tucson Basin" workshop with Jamies Heidke (Desert Archaeology) at Archaeology Southwest

This session focuses on pottery made and recovered from the Tucson Basin, dating to 2100 BC – present. Design layout and motif variability related to the location of production (where the data are available) will be discussed. Attendees will be provided with resources to help guide them in learning more about the pottery types discussed.

3) 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.: "Lower Colorado Buff Ware: A Primer" workshop with Aaron Wright (Archaeology Southwest) at Archaeology Southwest

Lower Colorado Buff Ware is associated with one of the four primary cultural traditions in Southwest archaeology—the Patayan. Unfortunately, this ware has received very little professional attention since it was first defined in the mid-1900s. This workshop will review the history of research on this ware, highlight issues in the current typology, and propose promising directions for future study. Specimens will be available for attendees to examine, providing an opportunity to engage directly with this little-understood ceramic tradition.
