    Harris Environmental Group (HEG) is looking to hire Archaeological Field Technicians for multiple cultural resources survey projects in New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado.

    Crews will primarily be working 8-day sessions, Thursday to Thursday, at 10-hours per day. The projects are expected to begin in August and continue through the late fall.

    Field Technicians are responsible for assisting the Crew Lead in identifying and recording cultural resources in the field. This includes identifying and documenting all types of regional artifacts and features, thoroughly filling out appropriate site forms, site/artifact photography, navigating survey transects with Garmin GPS, and mapping sites using Trimble GPS.

    HEG offers competitive pay and per diem.

    Qualifications:

    Required

    • Bachelor’s Degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field
    • Ability to work in hot or cold conditions, inclement weather, and remote locations
    • Ability to hike up to 10 miles a day in rugged terrain while carrying up to 30 lbs. of gear/water

    Preferred

    • Accredited field school
    • At least 6 months of experience in CRM pedestrian survey
    • Proficiency with basic Garmin GPS devices and familiarity with Trimble GPS (Terrasync)
    • Skill using digital tablets for site recordation
    • Experience identifying and documenting prehistoric and historic artifacts and features

    Harris Environmental Group (HEG) is hiring 1–2 full-time Project Director(s) for cultural resources projects throughout the Southwest U.S. This position will be based out of New Mexico and/or Arizona. The PD will direct compliance projects for state, federal, and commercial clients. The position will assist with project development, direction, coordination and quality control for cultural resource management projects while expanding our archaeological and historical consulting team. Responsibilities will include project direction (including fieldwork and travel), training of staff, data management, oversight of Field Directors and Crew Leads, and producing quality reports, managing multiple projects, and budgets.

    The successful candidate must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for Archaeology; thus, a graduate degree is required for this position.

    Qualifications:

    • Graduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field (required)
    • At least 5 years of supervisory experience in CRM, including at least 2 years’ experience as Field Director or Project Director (required)
    • At least 4 years of experience in CRM in the Southwest (required)
    • Experience with Section 106 compliance, NEPA, and other compliance processes (required)
    • Exceptional technical writing skills and a record of completing and editing technical reports (required)
    • Ability to be listed on our various federal and state cultural resource permits in NM, AZ, UT, NV, and/or CO (preferred)
    • At least 1 year of experience documenting and assessing historical buildings (preferred)
    • Experience with scheduling and budgeting projects (preferred)
    • Ability to work independently as well as oversee small or large projects (preferred)

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Manage budgets, prepare proposals, reports, and other technical documents, monitor field procedures, and author research designs, treatment plans, and other technical documents
    • Oversee field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, and final report production
    • Establish project procedures and budgetary restraints and assure that projects are concluded within budget and on time
    • Ensure that all fieldwork, analysis, and report production is conducted to professional standards and guidelines
    • Remain current with agency requirements for conducting cultural resources work
    • Conduct content edits of technical reports
    • Take initiative, resolve problems, and create improved procedures to assure tasks are completed in the most effective manner
    • The position may require up to 25 percent travel and field time.

    This is a full-time, salaried position, eligible for full benefits. The starting salary range for this position is $63,000 - $65,000.     Arizona State Museum at the University of Arizona is in search of an Assistant Manager, Permits Office (Cultural Institutions Compliance Professional III). The Assistant Manager, Permits Office position is within the Research Division of the Arizona State Museum (ASM) and is supervised by the Arizona Antiquities Act (AAA) Administrator. The incumbent assists in fulfilling ASM’s state mandated responsibilities.     Duties & responsibilities:

    • Assists the AAA Administrator in processing AAA Permit applications, including reviewing all AAA Blanket and Project-Specific Permit applications for completeness, preparing permits, obtaining necessary signatures, and returning materials to applicants.
    • Reviews qualifications of prospective Project Directors and Principal Investigators for listing on AAA Permits.
    • Receives draft reports and project deliverables for work conducted under AAA Permits and ensures that required deliverables are submitted.
    • Assists the AAA Administrator with report review and provides comments and revision requests.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Preferred Qualifications:

    ECORP Consulting, Inc. has an immediate need for field archaeologists for an ongoing project in Imperial County, California. Responsibilities include pedestrian survey, site mapping and recording, and other duties as assigned. Work is expected to be approximately four weeks.

    Minimum requirements include a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology or other closely related field, successful completion of an archaeological field school or field methods course at an accredited university in the United States, and at least 1 year of full-time professional experience. 

    Wages are based on level of education, relevant experience, and quality of references.    Bachelor’s Degree wage range is $24 to $27/hour. Master’s Degree in Anthropology and Registered Professional Archaeologists wage range starts at $30/hour. All positions include paid mileage between ECORP’s closest office and the project location, hotel, and per diem. These are temporary non-benefited positions.

    This position is located in Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in the Resources Stewardship and Facilities Management Division.

    Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately August through June, and be in a non-pay status for remainder of the year. Non-pay status is usually 2 weeks in duration but can be variable during these months.

    Duties

    Enters archeological artifact and project data including artifact information, catalog records, field notes, site records, etc. into automated systems, appropriate forms, and archival records. Retrieves and compiles data as required for resource management reports, interpretive exhibits, etc.

    Assists in the development of a variety of documents (e.g., cultural resource management plans, preservation guides, historic structures reports, etc.) by gathering data from files and reports, conducting research, evaluating available information, and preparing draft documents.

    Performs basic research by conducting interviews and publication and record searches, and synthesizing information collected for scientific, historical, and interpretive values.Provides general technical archeological assistance in a variety of areas related to or impacted by the archeological function, including Section 106 compliance, clearance, and planning; archeological assessments, evaluations, and field inspections.

    • Receives and reviews project submission materials by checking for completeness, communicating results to clients, and preparing submission materials for curation.
    • Fulfills document requests that may include archaeological reports, ASM site cards, and project registration forms.
    • Conducts archaeological records research for archaeologists and for non-archaeologists, prepares summary reports of the results, and produces GIS-generated maps.
    • Assists with the processing and curation of archaeological records submitted to the ARO.

    • Experience reading USGS 7.5-minute maps and understanding of Universal Trans-Mercator (UTM) and Public Lands Survey Systems.
    • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software, especially creating/editing shapefiles and exporting maps.
    • Experience working with AZSITE.
