    Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI), a cultural resources consulting firm, has multiple positions available for crew leads for ongoing and upcoming fieldwork projects in Arizona and adjacent states. SRI provides comprehensive CRM services to private and government clients at the federal, state, and local levels throughout the western United States from offices in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Washington. Although the current positions will be based out of the Tucson office, successful candidates may be assigned to projects across SRI's entire footprint. Food allowance and lodging are provided for out-of-town assignments.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    The ideal candidates should possess, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field and have completed an accredited archaeological field school. Candidates must also have a minimum of 2 years of field experience working on and/or supervising monitoring, survey, testing, and data recovery projects and be physically fit and able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions. Candidates should also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks. Prior Sonoran Desert and Colorado Plateau experience will be viewed favorably but are not a requirement.

    Job Description

    The position of Crew Chief is responsible for assisting Project Directors in implementing survey, testing, monitoring, and data recovery plans and for coordinating through the appropriate channels all field and analytic tasks associated with fieldwork, analysis, and report preparation.

    For small-sized projects, the crew chief may also assume many of the tasks typically assigned to a project director, though he or she still works under the supervision of a project director. For larger projects, the crew chief works with a project director and/or principal investigator and the project manager to ensure that all tasks associated with project implementation are accomplished professionally and in a timely and fiscally responsible manner.

    Compensation:

    The hourly rate for this project is between $ 24.00 and $31.00 per hour, depending on experience.

    Daily food allowance, when applicable based on the project, will be offered at a rate up to $59/day (no receipts required), and single-occupancy hotel accommodations will be provided.

    Wages for work on other SRI projects may vary and is based on individual qualifications and experience.

    DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

    The Archeologist assists with archaeological field research projects conducted by the Cultural Resources Management Program for the Gila River Indian Community. This position participates in aspects of archaeological monitoring, survey and excavation projects.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Assist in surveying and excavating prehistoric and historic archaeological sites.
    • Assist in training new archaeological crew members.
    • Assist archaeological crew members in filling and completing survey and excavation forms.
    • Check specimen bags from survey and excavation collections to ensure information has been accurately filled out and assign specimen numbers. 
    • Assist in keeping track of field equipment, filling out vehicle maintenance forms, and reporting to supervisor when equipment and vehicle needs repair.
    • Assist in preparing site maps, site forms and excavation forms.
    • Participate in classroom, laboratory and field training to increase knowledge about archaeology and improve basic job skills.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

    • Knowledge of HuHuKam and/or southwest archaeology.
    • Knowledge of prehistoric and historic artifacts.
    • Ability to complete relevant field forms, track specimen numbers/forms/artifact bags, undertake trench profiling and feature excavations and documentation.
    • Ability to carry out basic surveying and excavation methods e.g., use compass, protractor, line level, tape measure and maps.
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the general public.
    • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Anthropology, Archaeology, Southwestern Archaeology or a closely related field and one (1) year experience in archaeological field work which included surveys and excavations, or any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the position. 
    • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Anthropology, Archaeology, Southwestern Archaeology or a closely related field and two (2) years experience in archaeological field work which included surveys and excavations, or any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the position.
    • High School diploma or GED and four (4) years experience in archaeological field work which included surveys excavations.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Required to obtain a Tribal Operator’s permit. Valid state driver’s license with a current proof of driving record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit.     Summary:

    The position completes the cultural resources reviews for all the federal-aid projects. This position also assists with maintenance work orders, disposals, material source pits, and other state funded projects. This position is responsible for ensuring the technical completeness of documentation, is part of the Historic Preservation Team and will be supervised by the Historic Preservation Team Lead.

    Duties:

Work with consultants to ensure delivery of product by project deadlines.

    Coordinate and consult with other state and federal agencies, local governments, and tribes on cultural resources and historic preservation issues, including site eligibility and project effects. Prepare and review Section 106 documents, including Memorandum of Agree ment, Programmatic Agreements, and letters. Develop requests for proposals as necessary and review consultant proposals and budgets. Provide cultural resource input to environmental documents.

    Telephone and email consultation, project facilitation, and answering questions to facilitate the project management process.

    Communicate with Historic Preservation Team Lead/Cultural Resources Program Manager on a weekly basis to ensure adequate review of work projects, inform HPT Lead of potential problems in the completion of the work that may affect project schedules or budget, and discuss with HPT Lead difficult or complex projects. Fill in for Planner III on an as-needed basis during flex days, vacation, sick days to ensure continuity and flow in the project clearance process and serve customers.

    Work on emergency, non-standard or accidental discovery projects to ensure agency compliance with appropriate cultural resource laws. Review projects and update project reports and databases for tracking.

    Participate in team, group, and miscellaneous meetings and training as required by the supervisor. Must be able to drive a state vehicle during the course and scope of work.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

    State, Federal, Tribal, local agency policies, procedures, and regulations to effectively manage and facilitate cultural resources clearances/projects.

    Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

    Principles of historic preservation, archaeological methods, and Arizona history and prehistory

    Verbal and written communication and facilitation to interact daily with ADOT personnel, outside agency personnel, tribes, consultants, and the public.

    Project management to facilitate completion of large projects on tight and often changing schedules.

    Phone and email usage; skills  to address archaeological data recovery situations.

    Google Systems and Basic computer skills, use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positions System (GPS), are desired, but not required.

    Manage multiple tasks, while shepherding large projects through a complex and often changing process

    Preference:

    Additional training in Section 106 of NHPA, Arizona Historic Preservation Act, and other State and Federal cultural resource law.

    Experience collecting class I data (AZSITE, HPT Portal, City of Phoenix database, GLOs, etc.). 

    Field experience in prehistory and historic archaeology.

    Experience in drafting small survey and monitoring reports.

    Requirements:

    Job Description:

    • Point-locate observation and surface collection units as well as surface artifacts using a Trimble global positioning system (GPS) receiver

    EnviroSystems is seeking archaeological field technicians to conduct cultural resource compliance projects for federal, state, and commercial clients. The position requires the capability to perform cultural resources surveys and other archaeological projects in remote locations and over steep terrain, and often requires camping. Therefore, a clean driving record and the ability to work out-of-town for multiple sequential field sessions are also essential.

    The successful candidate(s) will possess some level of experience in cultural resources survey, site recording and site significance evaluations. Experience with archaeological testing and data recovery is a plus but is not required. Candidates will be trained, if necessary, in completion of survey forms (from a variety of states and federal agencies), operating cameras, and GPS units.     Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI), a cultural resources management (CRM) consulting firm, has a long-term, full-time, position available for a Project Director (PD) based out of its Tucson, Arizona office. SRI provides comprehensive CRM services to private and government clients at the federal, state, and local levels throughout the western United States from offices in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Washington.

    Minimum qualifications and Experience:

    The ideal candidate will have an MA or MS degree in anthropology with a focus in prehistoric archaeology, be Register of Professional Archaeologist certified, and possess a minimum of five years of field experience with at least two years demonstrable experience as a field supervisor on survey, testing, and/or data recovery projects. Prior experience working in the U.S. Southwest and Great Basin, a working command of federal and state cultural resource statutes and regulations, and demonstrable experience serving as lead author for Section 106 compliance reports will also be viewed favorably.

    SRI offers a compensation package that includes an annual pay range between $58,000 and $75,000 and which will be commensurate with the applicant’s credentials, experience, and industry standards.     Job Description:

    The position of PD is responsible for preparing and implementing survey, testing, monitoring, and data recovery plans, including all field and analytic tasks associated with fieldwork, analysis, and report preparation. This work routinely involves traveling and/or fieldwork. The PD is responsible for report writing and for having a solid understanding of the basics of CRM.

    For small- and medium-sized projects, the PD will report directly to a principal investigator (PI) or senior project director (SPD), though the PD is still ultimately responsible to the PI for that project. For larger projects, the PD will work with an SPD and/or the PI and the project manager to ensure that all project tasks are accomplished in a timely, fiscally responsible, and professional manner.

    A PD will typically work on 2–3 projects simultaneously and is expected to be able to multitask. PDs are responsible for training crew members and crew chiefs in archaeological field methods and in-office descriptive writing tasks. The ability to work harmoniously and productively with other SRI staff and clients is essential. Finally, SRI PDs are expected to professionally perform their responsibilities and to remain professionally active in the CRM discipline.
