    “Ancient Southwestern Native American Pottery” free presentation by archaeologist Allen Dart for Clarkdale Historical Society at Yavapai College Verde Campus “M” building’s room M-137, 601 Black Hills Dr., Clarkdale, Arizona; cosponsored by Arizona Humanities*

      2-4 p.m. Free

      In this presentation Mr. Dart shows and discusses Native American ceramic styles that characterized specific peoples and eras in the U.S. Southwest prior to about 1450, and talks about how archaeologists use pottery for dating archaeological sites and interpreting ancient lifeways. He discusses the importance of context in archaeology, how the things people make change in style over time, and how different styles are useful for identifying different cultures and for dating archaeological sites. His many illustrations include examples of ancient pottery types made throughout the American Southwest from about 2000 to 500 years ago. This program is made possible by Arizona Humanities.

Essential Duties

Curators work with outside clients and Digital Antiquity staff to draft administrative and descriptive metadata for digital files to be deposited in tDAR. Work may include digitizing paper documents, records, and images (scanning), following established best practices and national standards. Curators routinely create metadata records for digital files using tDAR data entry forms. In consultation with Digital Antiquity staff and supervisors, Curators identify and redact sensitive and/or confidential information found in digital files. In consultation with Digital Antiquity staff and supervisors, Curators assist in organizing digital files and correcting or modifying existing metadata in tDAR. Curators also assist in the Center for Digital Antiquity's development, improvement and maintenance of the tDAR digital repository. Curators may train and supervise students and/or part-time curators, and perform quality control on the work done by students and/or part-time curators.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

·        Master’s degree in Anthropology Archaeology, History, American Indian Studies, or Museum Studies.

·        Experience organizing and managing research data, specifically archaeological data.

·        Experience and familiarity with CRM archaeology and the range of archaeological data and documents.

Field Director - Archaeology/Cultural Resources

Tierra ROW Services, New Mexico Operations

Tierra Right of Way Services is seeking a motivated and experienced archaeologist/cultural resources manager who can fulfill the duties of Field Director/Archaeologist in either our Albuquerque or Santa Fe, New Mexico offices. The successful candidate must be a team player. They must have the ability to multi-task, including supervising multiple small surveys and/or monitoring projects concurrently. Experience directing large block surveys as well as archaeological testing and data recovery investigations is also desired. The successful candidate must meet qualifications to be listed in Tierra’s cultural resource investigation permits for the State of New Mexico, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and other regulatory agencies. The candidates must have knowledge of the literature and practice of prehistoric and historic archaeology in the American Southwest. The position may involve some travel and a current valid driver’s license is required. The successful candidate must be a United States citizen or hold a federally approved work visa.

Compensation is competitive, and is based on experience and education. The successful candidate must be based out of either our Albuquerque or Santa Fe, New Mexico office, though occasional travel is required.  Partial telecommuting options are also available.

Minimum qualifications include:

Ÿ  Seven years of experience in CRM at increasing levels of responsibility, such as technician, crew chief, assistant field director, field director, at least three years of which has been in New Mexico.

Ÿ  Thorough knowledge of the NHPA Section 106 process and associated federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Ÿ  Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field preferred.

Ÿ  Focus in a particular analytic specialty in material culture or an aspect of environmental archaeology a plus.

Position: Archaeologist/GIS Technician

Established in 1999, Transcon Environmental, Inc., offers environmental consulting services throughout the western United States with offices in Arizona, California, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming. Our highly successful team of environmental planners, biologists and archaeologists provides environmental planning, permitting, and compliance as well as infrastructure siting, Class I and Class III studies, Historic Property Treatment Plans, and environmental construction management and monitoring.

Job Description:

We are seeking a full-time or part time Archeologist/GIS technician for assignments located in Arizona. Both field and office work will be required. Fieldwork will involve one-day and multiple-day assignments. Archaeologist duties will include conducting or overseeing Class I literature review and background research, Class III pedestrian survey, Archaeological (cultural) monitoring, resource evaluation for the National Register and Arizona Register, and writing and/or reviewing cultural resources reports field surveys and projects. GIS technician duties include processing field-collected GIS data, generating project areas, conducting background research, and producing results maps (i.e., site sketch maps) for cultural resource projects. This individual may also georeference and digitize cultural resource maps for legacy data management projects throughout the West. Candidates applying for this position will be based out of Transcon’s Mesa, AZ office.

REQUIRED:

• Undergraduate degree in archaeology, or closely related field
• Proficiency in Arizona prehistoric and/or historic archaeology
• At least four years of full-time professional experience in archaeological research or cultural resource management
• Ability to perform work duties independently with short deadlines and work with other disciplines
• Highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy
• Experience with ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro
• Familiarity with ArcToolbox

• ·        Experience with data collection and processing workflows

• Experience generating project area, background research, and results maps for cultural resource projects
• Experience generating archaeological sketch maps
• Experience in building and managing geodatabases

PREFERRED:

• Experience driving a four-wheeled vehicle off-road or in rough terrain
• Familiarity with NHPA, Sections 106 and 110, and NEPA
• Proficient in Arizona archaeology and meets qualifications for listing as Crew Chief or Field Director on state and federal permits

The full-time position is exempt (salary) and eligible for full benefits. Part time positions are hourly and are not eligible for full benefits. On multiple day assignments, employee will be reimbursed for meals and lodging. We anticipate that employment will begin in July 2019. Applicants must have a clean driving record for at least 5 years prior to the start of work. Archaeology Crew Chief - Job Description

We are currently seeking resumes from qualified Archaeology Crew Chiefs for our Phoenix, Arizona office. The role will be to assist in completion of archaeological projects (survey, monitoring, testing, data recovery) for AZTEC's Cultural Resource Group.

Duties:

• Perform archaeological research and conduct site file searches at federal, state, tribal, and private repositories
• Assist with all types of archaeological investigations
• Adhere to deadlines
• Assist crew members with use of proper field methods and completing field forms based on information provided in work plan and/or field manual
• Prepare or assist in preparation of technical reports
• Evaluate and make recommendations regarding ARHP/NRHP eligibility of and project effects to, cultural resources
• Assess significance and identify appropriate National Register criteria of eligibility by applying aspects of integrity
• Draft consultation letters
• Assist with preparation of research designs and work plans
• Assist with lab work
• Communicate effectively and work closely with fellow employees
• Perform travel that may include overnight stays for an extended period

Archaeology Crew Chief - Required Skills:

• BA or BS in anthropology, archaeology, or closely related field
• Minimum of 5 years experience in CRM; minimum of 2 years experience as crew chief
• Understanding of Southwest prehistory and/or history, archaeological method and theory
• Experience conducting and assisting with all phases of cultural resource investigations
• Experience using GPS, GIS, Tablet
• Ability to generate and organize adequate field records
• Ability to perform fieldwork in adverse conditions (rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures, arid environments, dense vegetation) and carry up to 25 pounds of equipment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Understanding of applicable federal and state Cultural Resource Management/Historic Preservation laws (Section 106 of NHPA, AAA, and SHPA) preferred
• Experience drafting maps and figures in ArcMap/ArcGIS Desktop 10 preferred

• Understanding of prehistoric cultures of Arizona preferred
• Professional experience in the Southwest preferred
