About this Position
Pinyon, based in Lakewood, Colorado, is seeking a Field Crew Chief to work in Phoenix, Arizona, with 2 – 6 years of experience in Arizona and surrounding states. The Field Crew Chief will assist project Field Directors by supervising field crews, managing schedules, coordinating lodging and per diem, completing site file checks, and monitoring fieldwork. Additional responsibilities include report writing and general administrative support under the supervision of the Senior Archaeologist and Archaeological Resources Group Manager. This position requires overnight travel and involves conducting and coordinating fieldwork and data collection in support of Class I, II, and III cultural resource surveys, construction.
Essential Responsibilities
Assist project Field Directors with supervision of field crews and scheduling
Coordinate lodging, travel, and per diem for field personnel
Conduct site file checks, field monitoring, and documentation
Complete technical memorandums and state/local inventory forms
Support cultural resource surveys, construction monitoring, and data recovery
Provide general administrative support as assigned
Ensure fieldwork adheres to safety standards and regulatory requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology or Archaeology
Meet the Secretary of Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology (36 CFR 61)
2 – 6 years of experience with archaeological field survey and resource documentation in Arizona
Knowledge of local, state, and federal historic preservation laws and policies, including Section 106, Section 4(f), ARPA, NAGPRA, and the Antiquities Act
Strong field data collection skills, including GPS use
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Capable of performing physically demanding tasks in adverse conditions while carrying equipment
Valid driver’s license and good driving record
