Description of Duties: This position will serve as the regional lead and manager for habitat improvement projects and access projects implementation. Builds new and maintains existing relationships with landowners, lessee, wildlife conservation organizations and land management agencies to influence planning and implementation decisions that enable the implementation of new and existing habitat and wildlife related projects. This position will also provide consultation and technical advice within the specialty area and are expected to make public presentations.
Major responsibilities include:
- Administer, plan, organize, monitor, and implement habitat and access projects.
- Implement activities associated with conservation program funds.
- Writes, maintains and tracks project environmental compliance.
- Program budget tracking.
- Represents the Department at technical meetings and public information sessions.
- Works closely with other governmental agencies, conservation organizations and landowners to resolve issues, concerns and problems with habitat and/or access.
- Use technical equipment to plan, plot, monitor and track projects.
- Assist customers with map making.
- Maintain and increase proficiencies in technology through ongoing training.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The candidate will have knowledge of/in: wildlife habitats; southwest ecosystems, wildlife biology, application of management; conservation principles; project management; experience in procurement and the execution of cooperative agreements; report writing and basic mapping techniques. The candidate will have skills of/in: wildlife identification; project management; budget tracking; restoration ecology; ecological evaluations; GIS software; strong written and oral communication; and use of equipment including 4-wheel drive vehicles, computers, UTV and cameras. The candidate will have the ability to work independently or as part of a team; develop working relationships with public, federal and state agencies, and special interest groups; resolve conflicts; negotiate consensus through partnerships; work irregular hours, including weekends, to benefit wildlife and maintain positive relationships.
The preferred candidate will have experience in project management.
The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in a wildlife science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and two years of field experience in wildlife management.

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
