      The Arizona Archaeological Council is soliciting nominations for five Board positions for the 2020 calendar year. The following positions are open:

       

      President - Elect

       

      The following are the responsibilities of the President-Elect:

       

      • The President-Elect serves as a member of the Board and has the same duties and responsibilities of the other members
      • Understand the AAC by-laws
      • Follow Robert Rules of Order during each meeting
      • At the outset of their term the President Elect should review all duties of the President and be prepared to complete them.
      • Vote on resolutions of the AAC
      • Introduce or second motions of the board
      • Responsible with other Board members for approving all expenditures of the AAC. The President can authorize expenditures of up to $1,000 per year without Board approval if the expenditure(s) is (are) consistent with the mission and Bylaws of the AAC.
      • Can be asked to assist other board members on specific tasks or to serve on committees, as needed.
      • Attend and support AAC annual conference

      Treasurer

       

      The following are the responsibilities of the Treasurer:

       

      • Follow Robert’s Rules of Order during each meeting.
      • Understand the AAC bylaws
      • Keep accurate records of the AAC finances
      • Maintain membership rolls.
      • Coordinate adding President to credit union account. Be sure to bring the minutes that show the vote of the board.
      • Maintain and file the tax records for the AAC.
      • Provide full financial reports at each Board meeting and whenever requested.
      • In coordination with the President and Secretary insure that the AAC mailbox at the US Post Office is checked once a week.
      • Attend Board meetings and introduce and vote on motions.
      • Can be asked to assist other board members on specific tasks or to serve on committees, as needed.
      • Attend and support AAC annual conference.

       

      At-Large Board Members (2 positions):

       

      The following are the responsibilities of the At-Large Board Members:

       

      • Understand the AAC bylaws
      • Follow Robert’s Rules of Order during each meeting
      • The primary responsibility is voting on resolutions of the AAC
      • Introduce or second motions of the Board
      • Responsible for approving expenditures of the AAC. The President can authorize expenditures of up to $1,000 per year without Board approval if the expenditure(s) is (are) consistent with the mission and Bylaws of the AAC.
      • The Member-at-Large shall hold office for two years, maintain good standing and must attend AAC meetings to ensure a quorum.
      • Can be asked to assist other board members on specific tasks or to serve on committees, as needed.
      • Attend and support the AAC annual conference.

    The Treasurer and At-Large Board Members each serve for a two-year period. The President-Elect  will serve for one year in that position, one year as President, and one year as immediate Past President.

     

    Members in good standing interested in running for any of these positions can apply via email to aacboard@gmail.com. We will solicit requests to run until December 6th – and voting will take place in mid to late December.

     Perform archaeological construction monitoring, survey, testing, data recovery, report preparation, record

    checks, research

     Assist with laboratory processing of artifacts and samples

     Take field photography

     Performing site recording and survey using GPS equipment and digital applications

     Record information on site survey forms and digital survey equipment

     Perform record checks and assist with obtaining permits as well as preparing project close out documents

     Maintain field equipment and supplies

     Perform other duties as needed

    Required Qualifications

     Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field

     At least 2 years of field experience in archaeological survey and excavation

     Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and GPS equipment

     Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills

     Willingness to work under varied weather conditions

     Ability to travel out of town for extended periods

     Ability to work independently and as part of a team

     Ability to walk for prolonged periods of time in rugged terrain, stand for prolonged periods of time while

    monitoring

     Good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn

     Demonstrated experience with Arizona archaeology and familiarly with the Southwest

     Must have a valid driver's license

     An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

    Preferred Qualifications

    • GIS software experience
    • Familiarity with FileMaker and Collector

        “Ancient Southwestern Native American Pottery” free presentation by archaeologist Allen Dart for Clarkdale Historical Society at Yavapai College Verde Campus “M” building’s room M-137, 601 Black Hills Dr., Clarkdale, Arizona; cosponsored by Arizona Humanities*

          2-4 p.m. Free

          In this presentation Mr. Dart shows and discusses Native American ceramic styles that characterized specific peoples and eras in the U.S. Southwest prior to about 1450, and talks about how archaeologists use pottery for dating archaeological sites and interpreting ancient lifeways. He discusses the importance of context in archaeology, how the things people make change in style over time, and how different styles are useful for identifying different cultures and for dating archaeological sites. His many illustrations include examples of ancient pottery types made throughout the American Southwest from about 2000 to 500 years ago. This program is made possible by Arizona Humanities.

    Essential Duties

    Curators work with outside clients and Digital Antiquity staff to draft administrative and descriptive metadata for digital files to be deposited in tDAR. Work may include digitizing paper documents, records, and images (scanning), following established best practices and national standards. Curators routinely create metadata records for digital files using tDAR data entry forms. In consultation with Digital Antiquity staff and supervisors, Curators identify and redact sensitive and/or confidential information found in digital files. In consultation with Digital Antiquity staff and supervisors, Curators assist in organizing digital files and correcting or modifying existing metadata in tDAR. Curators also assist in the Center for Digital Antiquity's development, improvement and maintenance of the tDAR digital repository. Curators may train and supervise students and/or part-time curators, and perform quality control on the work done by students and/or part-time curators.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

    Desired Qualifications

    ·        Master’s degree in Anthropology Archaeology, History, American Indian Studies, or Museum Studies.

    ·        Experience organizing and managing research data, specifically archaeological data.

    ·        Experience and familiarity with CRM archaeology and the range of archaeological data and documents.

    ·        Experience with research data management, digital repositories, digital preservation and metadata standards.

    ·        Experience ensuring project activities are carried out in an efficient and timely manner.
