Title: Archaeological Field Technician

Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI), a multidisciplinary cultural resources consulting firm, has several temporary, full-time, hourly positions available for archaeological Field Technicians headquartered from SRI’s Tucson office. Qualified candidates should possess, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field and have completed an accredited archaeological field school. Candidates must also have a minimum of 1–2 years of field experience (i.e., survey, testing, and data recovery) and be physically fit and able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (i.e., extreme heat or cold). Candidates should also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks. Prior experience concerning the history and archaeology of southern Arizona is preferred, as is demonstrated past field experience working with Trimble global positioning system (GPS) receivers. It is anticipated that initial tasking will include local field survey at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, along with possible nonlocal field survey and excavation on the Barry M. Goldwater Range in southwestern Arizona.
Pay rates are based on individual qualifications and experience. For field projects requiring an overnight stay, food allowance and double occupancy hotel room accommodations will be provided.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Project Director and Crew Chief, archaeological Field Technicians are responsible for conducting reconnaissance survey, the establishment of grids, artifact collection, test unit and feature excavation, and documentation. To this end, archaeological field technicians are required to perform the following tasks in the field:
· Conduct archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery
· Point-locate observation and surface collection units as well as surface artifacts using a Trimble global positioning system (GPS) receiver
· Draw features in plan and profile that conform to SRI mapping conventions
· Clean and straighten the walls of a test unit or trench
· Complete field forms accurately and concisely
· Properly label collection bags and samples
· Must be able to lift up to 40lbs
Fieldwork is anticipated to last throughout the spring and into the summer.
