Desert Archaeology is seeking a two Field Director/Project Director positions

Position Summary:

 

Desert Archaeology is seeking to fill two Field Director/Project Director positions (one in the Phoenix office, one in the Tucson office) for directing survey, testing phase projects, and small data recovery projects and in assisting Senior Project Directors and Principal Investigators with field supervision of large projects. Field Directors/Project Directors direct and participate in all phases of a project, from pre-field planning (including writing research designs and work plans) and logistical support, to crew supervision, work with laboratory personnel, and post-field analysis and report preparation. The successful candidate will have experience in cultural resource management fieldwork and report preparation, experience as a crew supervisor, a solid working knowledge of Arizona/Southwest prehistory and history, a collegial attitude, willingness to work regularly on out-of-town projects, and will qualify for an Arizona State Museum permit. Successful performance in this position will lead to increased responsibilities and opportunities.

 

This is a 30–40 hour per week, permanent position with medical, PTO, and 401k benefits.

 

 

Responsibilities Include:

 

w Work with Desert Archaeology project directors and analytic staff

w Direct and participate in survey, testing phase projects, and small data recovery projects

w Provide field support with logistics and crew supervision on large-scale projects

w Prepare final reports for small projects; assist with preparation of reports for large projects

w Oversee post-field analysis as needed

w Meet project deadlines and budgets

w Provide monthly progress reports on project activities

 

 

Qualifications:

 

w Graduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, architecture, or related field(s)

w Experience in cultural/heritage resource management

w Meet Secretary of Interior standards

w Permittable by the Arizona State Museum at the Project Director level

w Minimum 3 years of archaeological experience

w Supervisory experience

w Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills

w Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel

w Experience with hand-held GPS devices and cameras

w Willing to do some travel (up to 50 percent time)

w Valid driver’s license

w Work base is in Phoenix or Tucson

w Experience in Southwest United States archaeology

w Must be eligible to work in the United States

 

Compensation commensurate with experience.
