Field Director - Archaeology/Cultural Resources Tucson/Phoenix, Arizona
Tierra Right of Way Services is seeking motivated and experienced archaeologists/cultural resources managers who can fulfill the duties of Field Director in either our Tucson or Phoenix office. The successful candidate must be a team player. He/she must have the ability to multi-task, including supervising multiple small surveys and/or monitoring projects concurrently. Experience directing large block surveys as well as testing and data recovery investigations is also desired. The successful candidate must meet qualifications required for supervisory archaeologists by the State of Arizona, Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Forest Service, including the U.S. Secretary of Interior’s standards for archaeologists. The candidates must have knowledge of the literature and practice of prehistoric and historic archaeology in the American Southwest. A moderate amount of travel may be required; a current valid driver’s license is required. The successful candidates must be a United States citizen or hold a federally approved work visa.
Qualifications:
• Seven years’ experience in CRM at increasing levels of responsibility, such as technician, crew chief, assistant field director, field director, at least three years of which has been in southern Arizona, is required.
• Thorough knowledge of the NHPA Section 106 process and associated federal and state laws and regulations is essential.
• Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field is required.
• Focus in a particular analytic specialty in material culture or an aspect of environmental archaeology.
Duties include:
• Directing fieldwork
• Staffing and scheduling input
• Writing reports and preparing forms to pertinent agency standards
• Delegating tasks to junior staff
• Problem resolutions in field and office settings
• Training archaeological technicians in field methods, preparation of forms, and report writing
• Maintaining current knowledge of literature and professional reports
• Assisting in the preparation of scopes of work and budgets for proposals
• Analyzing collections of cultural materials that fall within your particular analytic specialty
Salary and Benefits:
