    Primary Responsibilities

    The Arizona/New Mexico Traffic Engineering Business Class Manager is a professional that is well versed in all aspects of traffic engineering related services for transportation, water, power and oil and gas projects within our Transportation Business Group and manages a group of up to 10 business group professionals spread over our AZNM Area offices.  The primary duties of the Traffic Engineering Business Class Manager include: responsibility for area coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of business class staff and products to meet client needs and market drivers all within the direction and goals of business class plans;  participation in delivery of project services to meet client expectations;  collaboration on business class efforts with area operations, marketing and project management;  participation in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices; implementation of effective quality assurance and quality control reviews;  participation in regional business class strategic planning, budgeting and plan implementation; tracking staff workloads and utilizations; establishing internal and external training programs and training schedules; assist with business development efforts and provide support on proposal preparation; plan for project needs and recruit/hire staff accordingly, and drive the business class to meet project goals for growth, client satisfaction, and service diversification.

    The responsibilities are as follows:

    • Provide area leadership of technical capabilities within the Traffic Engineering Business Class (BC).

    • Build and retain strong relationships with Staff, Project Managers, Client Development Managers throughout Arizona and the Southwest region

    • Monitor area performance within the BC to achieve defined goals and support operational managers in monitoring project performance and implementation of corrective actions.

    • Provide strategic and tactical input on business trends to BC and local office planning.

    • Facilitate BC teamwork, communication and work sharing between area offices, business classes, management, marketing and staff.

    • Serve as client manager, project principal and/or project manager.

    • Maintain appropriate QA/QC procedures and best practices

    • Actively participate in projects or manage projects to meet assigned utilization rate

    • Prioritize BC activities across Arizona and New Mexico to best implement and meet Market Sector and Transportation Business Group objectives

    • Manage staff workloads and make recommendations for adjustments and recruiting as needed

    • Manage training and licensing requirements and identify opportunities for continuing education

    • Develop an technical mentoring and employee advancement process to advance staff

    • Champion opportunities to grow the technical Traffic Engineering practice

    • Support Area pursuits and actively participate in proposal development

    • Identify project needs and recruit professionals to join HDR team

    General Responsibilities: Conduct cultural records reviews, archaeological surveys, Phase I testing, Phase II data recovery, archaeological monitoring, archaeological mitigation, preparation of archaeological plans and reports, and contribute cultural information for environmental documents Identify, evaluate and recommend risk and mitigation strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Prepare applicable risk assessments and technical documents including proposals, reports and regulatory agency correspondence.


    Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
    • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
    • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
    • Mid-level, experienced scientific professional responsible for conducting site testing and making recommendations for systems design on medium sized projects with a variety of complexity.
    • Participates with more senior scientists on large, more complex projects.
    • Performs survey, monitoring, and excavation fieldwork assignments, often serving as field lead and/or project manager for given assignment.
    • Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
    • Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects including quality control review of proposals written by others.
    • Evaluates complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports.
    • May serve as team member or lead in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
    Requirements:
    • Master’s degree in Anthropology and a minimum of 5 years’ related experience. Or, in lieu of a Master’s degree, possess a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and have a minimum of 9 years’ related experience.
    • Ability to perform all aspects of archaeological fieldwork outdoors year-round within the U.S. Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada, and Utah).
    • Meets Secretary of Interior Standards for conducting archaeological fieldwork.
    • Ability to obtain State and Federal permits to conduct archaeological fieldwork within U.S. Southwest.
    • Ability to obtain Principal Investigator status in the US Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada, or Utah).
    • Ability to author records review, monitoring, survey, testing and data recovery reports.
    • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

The role will be to assist with 3+ month data recovery project within Hohokam village site in south Phoenix; opportunity to transition to permanent, full-time employment with AZTEC's rapidly growing Cultural Resource Group.

    Duties:

    The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology at the University of New Mexico seeks a Director for the Office of Contract Archeology (OCA) to lead a dedicated staff conducting innovative cultural resources management research in a University setting. Since its founding in 1973, the OCA has taken a leading role in innovative interdisciplinary cultural resource studies throughout the state of New Mexico and adjacent regions. Working with a diversity of clients, including Federal, State, Municipal and Tribal agencies, the OCA has a distinguished record of developing scientifically based management solutions for projects of all sizes and contributes to the training of undergraduate and graduate students in cultural resource management and archaeological practice.

    Position Summary

    Under indirect supervision from the Director of the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, the OCA Director (formal University administrative title Associate Director, Maxwell Museum) provides integrated management and professional leadership to the Office of Contract Archeology. Establishes and implements organizational goals and operating procedures for the OCA. Directs, coordinates and oversees multiple contract/grant funded research projects and programs, working with diverse clients, governmental agencies, community members and University programs, offices, and faculty and staff. Plans and manages annual budgets for the organization. Develops strategies for generating revenues and resources for the OCA. Provides professional and technical leadership and mentoring to a team of 8-12 full-time and 10+ part-time staff and student employees.     Minimum Qualification

    Doctorate degree in a related Archeological field; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

    Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Record of conducting substantive archaeological research in the context of cultural resource management programs.
    • Demonstrated ability to consistently obtain and manage cultural resource management contracts and grants as Principal Investigator and/or program director.
    • Experience supervising staff (>15 persons) and large projects.
    • Knowledge of the archaeology of the greater Southwest, particularly of New Mexico.
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and tribal cultural resource laws and regulations.
    • Demonstrated experience of successful interactions with diverse clients, government agencies, and communities, and University students, programs and administrative units.
    • Record of publications including professional journals and technical publications, and record of presentations at professional conferences and meetings.
